You can make your first pick within a minute of opening Basement. Go to basement.fun. Your first visit sets up a guest account with a random handle, something like RowdyCorgi37, and usually 10,000 play credits. You don't need an email or a wallet.

Your balance sits in the top right. For a moment on your first visit it's a placeholder bar while your credits are set up. After that it reads Free until your first pick has settled, so it's clear these aren't real money.

What the first-visit hints mean

Three small hints show up one at a time, each pointing at the control it's about:

  • Pick who wins · it's free sits on the strip at the bottom, where you pick. On a computer it sits over the sides in the bet slip.
  • ⚡ throws chaos into the match shows while a match is live and points at the Drop button, the lightning bolt. On a computer it reads Drop throws chaos into the match, over the Drop button under the stage.
  • Swipe for the next match shows when a match ends. On a computer it reads Press J for the next arena and points at the arenas rail.

A hint goes away when you do the thing, tap it, or leave it for a few seconds. The pick hint comes back on your next couple of visits until you make a pick.

Make your first pick

1

Find a round taking picks

Swipe up or down to move between matches. A card whose pill reads Bets open with a countdown is about to start. While a match is live, the strip at the bottom reads Up next: tap it to see the sides for the round after. In a two-sided game, tapping a face on it opens the picker with that side already selected.

2

Tap the side you think wins

Each side shows what it pays, like 1.9x. The app stops taking picks 0.6 seconds before GO, when the pill switches to Locked.

3

Choose a stake

The chips are 1%, 5% and 10% of your balance in round numbers, plus Max. With 10,000 credits they read 100, 500 and 1,000. The 5% chip is chosen for you the first time.

4

Tap Bet

The button shows your stake and what comes back if you win, for example Bet 500 on Sir Bonk with 2,850 next to it in Rush Hour. The strip then shows your pick and the countdown to GO.

5

Watch the result

At the finish you see the winner and, if your pick won, what you won on top of your stake. On a phone, a few seconds later the feed moves on to the next match you can still pick. Tap Stay to keep watching this one. On a computer the result stays on stage until you choose another arena.

On a computer the same steps happen in the bet slip on the right, and the keyboard can do them too. See Basement on a computer.

Throw your first Drop

When a match is live, tap the lightning bolt on the right, or Drop under the stage on a computer. The server picks a random boost or hazard and a random competitor to send it to, and it lands about half a second later. You get 3 free Drops a day. How Drops work has the details.

Next steps

Claim your daily refill of free credits, and add Basement to your home screen if you'll be back. Play credits never turn into B3. Real B3 is there later if you want it, for adults 18 and over: read how real B3 works first.
